Colibri-The Hummingbired Exhibition
Colibrí — The Hummingbird Exhibition showcases 10 original works created during a six-month residency at Casa Casillas in Chula Vista, exploring themes of heritage, gratitude, color, and identity.
Introducing "Colibri-The Hummingbired"
German Rojas is a queer Mexican-American artist born and raised in San Diego. Growing up as a self-described “border baby,” they spent their childhood moving between San Diego and Tijuana. This sparked a deep love for their Mexican heritage and a lifelong obsession with color. That energy comes through in their art: bold, full of life, and pride. With a background in sustainability, German also brings a thoughtful eye to how things in nature connect, adapt and coexist. This perspective carries into their dedication to community and the environment.
This exhibition is a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported German along the way. The people who shaped who they are through shared knowledge, values, happiness, and inspiration. "Mom and Dad, thank you for everything you’ve done for me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without your love and support. You believed in me, showed up for me, and gave me everything I needed to grow. I am so grateful for you both." ~German
El Colibrí (The hummingbird) is the heart of this show. A symbol of resilience and strength, it reflects German’s belief that people are most powerful when they come together. In a world that is ever-changing, it is our unity and solidarity that keeps us alive.
